Not only do these hotfix rollup packs fix issues, they also allow for improved compatibility with Office 2007 and Vista. The the respective documentation for all the benefits.

No doubt HRP2 is a good thing, but when some of your servers can’t install it because of ‘imacompia.dll is not a valid short file name’ error, is more frustrating than it’s worth!
Hey Dave
Have you looked into the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility? I had a similar error when installing Live Spaces editing tools for my old blog. The PSS at Microsoft recommended it. Unfortuately I don’t know exactly which program to select – I would need to see the options available. Get it at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Hi Melvin, thanks, yeah, I have that. I will look further into it, I was a bit hesitant to use it on a production server when part of it says it won’t remove any of the files installed by the installer, and part of it says:
You may need to reinstall some or all applications on your system that used the Windows Installer technology to be installed.
Have you used the cleanup utility much? Has it ever killed an installation on you?
There are a number of Presentation Server installations to clean up, and it looks like i’d use the main one. Perhaps I should try it on a weekend when I could reinstall Presentation Server if things turn pear shaped.
Cheers,
Dave
Hi Dave
I did end up reinstalling the app that I ran the cleanup tool against. As the Microsoft KB says – make sure you reinstall it into the same directory as it was originally.
Cheers
Melvin
Aah ok, Cheers.
I’ll let you know how it goes
